How to get more Google reviews for your business
Updated 23 October 2026
The short answer: ask every customer, soon after the job, and make it one tap by sending your Google review link by text or email. Reply to each review. Never offer a reward, and never ask only the people you expect to be happy.
Ask every customer, not only the happy ones
Google lets businesses ask customers for honest reviews. It does not allow asking only the people you expect to be positive, or discouraging negative reviews. Asking everyone keeps your rating honest and keeps you inside the rules.
Ask soon after the job
People remember the details best right after the work is finished or the appointment is over. A short, personal message at that moment feels natural, and it takes the customer very little effort to reply.
Make it one tap
The easier it is, the more reviews you will get. Your Google Business Profile can give you a link and a QR code that open your review form. Send the link by text or email, or print the QR code on an invoice or receipt. Customers need a Google account to post a review.
Keep the request short and personal
- Use their first name and thank them for their business.
- Ask one simple question: would they share their experience on Google?
- Don’t suggest what to write, and don’t ask for five stars.
Reply to every review
Replies show future customers that someone is listening. Google suggests keeping them professional, brief and personal, including for negative reviews. Thank the person, answer anything specific and, if something went wrong, offer to put it right.
What to avoid
- Offering discounts, gifts or payment in return for a review.
- Asking only customers you expect to be happy, or steering unhappy customers away from Google.
- Setting review quotas for staff.
- Asking employees, or anyone with a conflict of interest, to post reviews.
